The Northwest has a variety of weather influences. In a maritime snow climate - with the influence of the Pacific Ocean - Washington State holds the world record for the most snowfall in a single season (Mount Baker Ski Area, Winter 1998-1999, 1,140 inches). The dramatic depth of this maritime snowpack represents special challenges in avalanche forecasting and the weather impacting it. Thankfully, the Northwest is home to some of the most technically advanced forecasting centers in the world. The links below represent some of the data sources we use in forecasting.

Weather is a primary factor in avalanche awareness and forecasting, each of our education programs include a comprehensive module on mountain weather and how it affects snow stability.
